It is always our aim to build long-term relationships with the evolving team at any airport – with Malta being a great example. Over ten years of working together has seen the terminal transformed through multiple joint projects.
Our initial appointment from Malta airport was in conjunction with Pragma; a consultancy that we regularly team up with. This appointment developed a spatial brief for a significant increase in commercial area, which led to major changes to the terminal buildings.
A large external courtyard was enclosed to create new space on all three levels of the terminal. The lower level was used for landside food and beverage facilities, and security was located at the check-in level. At the upper airside level, the infill was used to create a new walk-through duty free shop and CIP lounge.
All of the existing commercial space was re-configured to create a sweep of frontage visible to all passengers as they enter the departures lounge. In 2015, we were reappointed to master plan an extended version of the terminal with more significant changes to accommodate additional commercial space on the back of additional operational demand for check-in and security facilities.
We were reappointed to work with Malta Airport in 2018.
