The beautiful and historic city of Muscat – the capital city of the Sultanate of Oman, its largest city and a vibrant gateway to the region.
Ranked 8th by a leading travel guide in a list of the ‘must visit’ countries in the world, Oman offers a stunning experience to visitors – from stunning landscapes to traditional hospitality and a passion for high quality in every sphere of life.
That experience of high quality begins immediately on arrival in Muscat, where the first phase of this exquisite new terminal is designed as a sequence of engaging spaces through the different stages of the passenger process, creating a markedly different experience to the common large enclosure approach adopted by so many airports.
The airside facilities are housed over three levels, with the main concourse providing ease of exit to three piers. The design focus on optimal passenger flow within the commercial planning includes a walk through duty free shop for originating departures while the high proportion of transfer passengers on the transfer route was manipulated to introduce them into the frontage zone of the main duty free store. Several operational elements were re-arranged and rationalised in the planning process, including the amalgamation of three vertical circulation cores into one and the relocation of access to two gate lounges below the main concourse level. In the second phase, additional space at the first mezzanine level is utilised for further enhancement of the food and beverage offer.
