Project Description

Faced with a number of site constraints at Dublin’s new terminal, we crafted a highly effective solution that made optimal use of every available space.

In March 2006, we were part of the winning team appointed by Dublin Airport Authority on Dublin’s new Terminal 2. Addressing the site’s constraints, the terminal is planned on 3 levels, with check-in at the lowest level, arrivals at the middle level, which also has all of the landside commercial facilities shared by both arrivals and departures. Security and immigration is at the upper level and accessed by a wide bridge crossing the road to Terminal 1.

We designed a double-height departure lounge with retail at the lower level and the majority of the food & beverage facilities at the mezzanine level, overlooking the lounge and the apron. The departure lounge has 6,100 m2 of commercial space in total, with flows planned for passengers to enter at one end and depart from the other.

In 2016, we were further appointed to create a walk-through duty free P&C shop and a new liquor store, as well as a multi-brand fashion store. The liquor store opened in 2019, with the P&C store opening a year later.

As passengers pass through the departure lounge, the food & beverage offer on the mezzanine is clearly visible, along with the vertical circulation to it. By positioning two restaurants and bars behind the shops and against the façade, there are views of the apron and natural light is brought into the lounge.
