Project Description
When passengers vote for their favourite airport in yearly surveys, Changi is always there at the top of the list!
We have had a long association with Changi Airport, with major planning projects completed in terminals 2 and 4. In 2014, we were part of the competition winning team, lead by Mott MacDonald, for the concept master plan design phases of the proposed new terminal 5.
We were involved in developing the commercial brief with CAG, whose over arching philosophy was for a concept that responded at a human scale whilst catering for 70 million passengers in a single processor building. The airside planning for the whole terminal was shaped by the commercial options that were developed to explore a variety of terminal formats. The conclusion was for a triangular airside shape tapering in from the split security zones post check-in.
To deliver the human scale, the airside retail plan was split into a series of linked halls surrounding a central oasis on the axis of the building. This allows passengers to rest away from the main shopping halls, in a heavily landscaped environment similar to the Jewel at Changi. The oasis is surrounded by a central commercial circus, which includes a series of flagship sites trading as duplex units and linking up to the food and beverage galleries. The circus acts as a boulevard to encourage passengers to explore the whole of the commercial offer.
