Project Description

Toronto Pearson Airport carries a long-standing passion for expressing the culture and heritage of the region, giving us the opportunity to create an extraordinary sense of place.

Instilled with a powerful emphasis on delivering authentic sense of place, our design work for Toronto Pearson set out to enhance the whole airport experience for travellers using this space, shoppers and non-shoppers alike.

The design is embedded with strong synergies responding to the interior architecture of the airport, including the use of local timbers to emphasise the sense of place. The two primary shopping areas address the needs of key target passenger profiles: firstly a luxury fashion zone housed in the dramatic double height space that welcomes all departing passengers while the second area is a refurbishment of the existing core duty free offer, primarily housed under a lidded volume.

As part of the cohesive expression of the spirit of Toronto Pearson Airport we were also assigned with creating a distinctive brand identity for exclusive use at the airport, including local product branding and packaging concepts.

This was to be the first of many projects we have completed at Toronto Pearson both with the airport and working with The Nuance Group (TNG).

The main focus of the store is the Tastefully Canadian local products offer which is designed within a rotunda featuring local materials and locally sourced objects.

Within each of these spaces we created a series of dynamic freestanding walls to order the brand boutiques and give each of them sufficient back wall presence – no mean task! The solution is a walkthrough type feel to the store where the boutiques have no physical threshold and passengers easily permeate into them.
