Project Description

The brief for the walkthrough duty free store was to express a true spirit of the region.

Dynamic designs convey the stories of this historic city that effortlessly blends old and new, capturing the vibrant mood of the city’s streets.

Toulouse’s familiar tones of dusty pink and terracotta are subtly echoed across the space, creating vibrant contemporary counterpoints to the backdrop of traditionally styled timber wall-paneling.

In Liquor, rich paneling in golden tones projects a mood of luxury. A modern edge is inserted by the fresh design of the humidor, featuring rose-toned glass that neatly complements the traditionally styled walls.

Local products are found across the categories but the central focus is shared in the ‘Terre d’Occitanie’ space. Natural wood tones dominate the space, including the dramatic back wall seemingly made of traditional wine boxes. A classic Citroën pick-up truck adds a touch of fun and in-store theatre.

In the P&C/Beauty area the city’s love of gardens and flowers is reflected in the Fragrance Garden. Two rose gold-framed room dividers create an elegant backdrop and host a series of merchandising niches personalised by local brands. Box hedging and trailing geraniums colourfully extend the garden imagery, adding colour, shape and texture.

Contemporary interpretations of the distinctive Toulouse brickwork is used throughout the store.

Rose coloured gold has been introduced as an accent material in the furniture and ceiling features to create subtle highly modern references to the pink city.

“This exciting development at Toulouse perfectly blends commercial imperatives and design ambitions. Dufry’s retail planning meticulously aligns the commercial offer to the Toulouse passenger profile and The Design Solution’s interior design supports this ethos, driving a unique and memorable experience for the passenger and an optimally effective commercial space for the retailer and the airport.”
